Lake Gaston NC, VA came about when VA Electric Power Company built a dam in 1963 to generate electricity for Dominion Resources. The lake is about 20,000 acres, 34 miles long, with 350 miles of beautiful shoreline, magnificent sunrises and sunsets, breathtaking views, water sports and activities. Water levels average 200 feet above sea level and are regulated so that the levels fluctuate within a foot plus or minus – exceptions may vary during an emergency. Because the levels are regulated, permanent boat dock structures are allowed, unlike Kerr Lake which feeds Lake Gaston. This is a plus for those thinking of investing in waterfront property or other real estate on Lake Gaston. One other plus for investors is the high quality of water it produces.
The lake crosses the state boundaries of NC & VA, encompassing five counties, and is nestled conveniently between I-95 and I-85, allowing easy access for travelers. Brunswick and Mecklenburg Counties in VA share the North side of the lake, while Warren, Halifax and Northampton Counties in NC share the South side. To help identify areas, quadrants were formed as NW, NE, SW, and SE, where hundreds of subdivisions can be found, making this resort area ideal for retirees, families, and those wanting a second home for weekend get-a-ways.
So what about Lake Gaston activities & events? The lake is stocked with a variety of game fish, including rock fish, striped and large mouth bass, crappie, and catfish for fishing enthusiasts. But fishing is not the only thing people love about the lake. Boating, sailing, parasailing, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, water skiing, wake boarding, are just a sample of popular water sports activities on the lake. And of course swimming and just fishing of docks are what people love to do right on their waterfront property.
Besides water sports, other lake activities include golf, shopping, local Theatre Arts Productions, horseback riding, hiking, bird watching, relaxing at local day spas, and more. The rural, friendly, more relaxed way of living makes Lake Gaston a great place to retire, relax and enjoy life. And of course you can't beat the beautiful sunrise and sunset views - they are just breathtaking!
