LAKE GASTON INFORMATION

Lake Gaston NC, VA came about when VA Electric Power Company built a dam in 1963 to generate electricity for Dominion Resources. The lake is about 20,000 acres, 34 miles long, with 350 miles of beautiful shoreline, magnificent sunrises and sunsets, breathtaking views, water sports and activities. Water levels average 200 feet above sea level and are regulated so that the levels fluctuate within a foot plus or minus – exceptions may vary during an emergency. Because the levels are regulated, permanent boat dock structures are allowed, unlike Kerr Lake which feeds Lake Gaston. This is a plus for those thinking of investing in waterfront property or other real estate on Lake Gaston. One other plus for investors is the high quality of water it produces.

The lake crosses the state boundaries of NC & VA, encompassing five counties, and is nestled conveniently between I-95 and I-85, allowing easy access for travelers. Brunswick and Mecklenburg Counties in VA share the North side of the lake, while Warren, Halifax and Northampton Counties in NC share the South side. To help identify areas, quadrants were formed as NW, NE, SW, and SE, where hundreds of subdivisions can be found, making this resort area ideal for retirees, families, and those wanting a second home for weekend get-a-ways.
